Candidates use social media tools to research prospective employers

Candidates are becoming very selective in the companies they will work for and are using social media tools to research prospective employers. That’s just one of the findings from the latest Hays Quarterly Report, released this week.
“Skilled and experienced candidates are becoming very selective about who they will work for and what roles they will consider,” says Lisa Stanhope, Country Head of Hays in Malaysia.
“Candidates are also using more social media tools, such as Facebook and LinkedIn, to form an opinion as to whether a prospective employer would be a good place to work or not. And they are keen to explore any new job opportunities that combine interesting challenges to propel them towards strong career growth.”
The Report, covering October to December 2012, also found while a pay rise was still an incentive to change employers, job satisfaction was gaining more attention.
“While candidates are still looking for financial rewards to change jobs, there is now greater emphasis on job satisfaction, flexible work arrangements, skills development and career progression as key factors in making career decisions,” says Lisa.
“However, a pay rise can still be a driving factor for candidates when considering a move to another job, particularly in the finance sector. Candidates are, however, also interested in additional benefits such as car, mobile phone and medical insurance plans.”
Meanwhile, employers are also being selective when recruiting new staff and they are looking for a candidate who is the right fit.
“Employers are keen to secure a candidate’s cultural fit within their independent departments as well as in the organisation as a whole,” says Lisa.
According to the Hays Quarterly Report for October to December 2012, demand is highest for the following skilled professionals:
  • Hays Accountancy & Finance:
Finance Managers, Finance Analysts, Audit Managers and CFOs;
  • Hays Human Resources:
HR Managers, Senior HR Managers, Change Managers and Organisational Design specialists;
  • Hays Information Technology:
Pre-Sales Consultants, Enterprise Architects, SAP Consultants, Mobile Developers and Cloud Specialists;
  • Hays Oil & Gas:
Project Managers, Senior Project Engineers, Senior Mechanical Design Engineers and Piping Stress and Support Engineers;
  • Hays Sales & Marketing:
Sales Managers, Sales Executives,  Brand Managers, Marketing Managers (digital), Trade Marketing, Sales Executives and Sales Managers.
