HR professionals attracting multiple offers as employers strengthen recruitment teams

Human resources professionals in Malaysia with sound communication skills will become a rare find as companies snap them up to build their internal recruitment teams.

According to recruiting experts Hays, while local HR talent will be favoured, companies are seeking talent with niche skills to help expand their workforce and support long-term business growth.

“Recruitment of HR professionals will remain steady as companies continue to create new roles,” says Tom Osborne, Regional Director of Hays in Malaysia. “Companies are increasingly focusing on soft skills of HR candidates. For example, hiring managers who are able to lead from the front in branding through effective communication with applicants during the recruitment process are highly sought-after.”

In its latest Quarterly Report for July to September 2016, Hays finds that a rising number of organisations are developing their internal recruitment teams to meet their hiring needs.

“Despite the fact that recruitment agencies can help secure niche roles and are still one of the major resources for hiring, more companies are looking to develop their internal recruitment functions to meet hiring needs,” says Tom. “Those with the right balance of soft skills and technical competence will likely find opportunities in the market.”

“Experienced HR professionals with expertise in compensation and benefit packages are also in high demand as companies optimise their payroll structures,” says Tom. “Those candidates with experience in benchmarking salaries across various companies, providing internal salary adjustments and strategising attractive remuneration packages are deemed ideal targets by employers.”

Learning and development professionals able to manage the development of talent, encourage professional development and conduct training to guarantee a pipeline of future talent are also actively sought after by companies,” Tom added.
In terms of candidate trends, Hays says that candidates are more proactive in their job searching and optimising their use of social media.

“Social media such as LinkedIn enables jobseekers to reach a wider audience these days,” says Tom. “Candidates are keen on developing relationships with recruitment consultants in their job hunting process.”
