Banks in Malaysia are focusing on finance technology as they look to upgrade and migrate their banking systems, says recruiting experts Hays.
According to the recruiter’s latest Hays Quarterly Report for April to June, strong demand exists for Program/Project Managers, Business and Systems Analysts, and Data Architecture and Modeling specialists.
“Financial institutions in Malaysia are looking to replace legacy systems, as well as undergo major transformations in order to better meet customer needs,” says Tom Osborne, Country Manager of Hays in Malaysia. “These changes are creating job vacancies within the technology arms of these various institutions.”
“Demand is especially strong for finance technology professionals on the retail and wholesale side of banking, and those individuals with good communication and leadership skills stand out from the crowd. Employers are becoming more open to looking at international candidates who can introduce new technology and train local employees.
“Permanent roles are still the most common in finance technology, however we are seeing an increasing number of contract jobs.”
In terms of skills in demand, the recruiter is seeing a high demand for Program/Project Managers to help organisations focus on strategising the framework and roadmap prior to the implementation of new projects.
“These Managers usually have process re-engineering, change management and project execution skills, as well as being able to participate in active project planning,” says Tom.
“Business and Systems Analysts are also sought. A large number of project initiatives have created opportunities for mediators between business and technology. In addition, Data Architecture and Modeling specialists in areas such as MDM, Teradata, ETL and Enterprise Datawarehouse are also in high demand.”
According to the recruiter, finance technology professionals are becoming more familiar in specific technical and business areas in order to meet demand. “There is a demand for specialists in each specific functional breakdown such as credit risk, asset management and retail core banking,” says Tom.
