Supporting our local charities and communities
At Hays Malaysia, we are powering careers by applying our passion for people beyond recruitment to support those less fortunate than ourselves. Our key focus will be on a volunteer hours, with an Asia -wide target of 2020 voluntee hours donated as a region. We will be moving away from the pre-planned structured monthly activities. This means you get to decide if you'd like to volunteer your time or not. We will be working with different charities throughout the year so you have a choice to volunteer for your prefeered cause.
QUARTER 1: SHELTER HOME FOR CHILDREN
SHELTER is a registered welfare organisation for children and teens which began in 1981. As one of the pioneering welfare organisations in Petaling Jaya, it was conceived to aid children and teenagers who are abandoned, neglected, orphaned or abused. It's vision is to give 'children at risk' a childhood and future by protecting, guiding and healing them, and by building strong communities and loving families.
Their mission, services and initiatives are geared to provide care for children at risk through residential homes, counseling and therapy. This is augmented by services that proactively raise public awareness on child abuse, child protection, parenting and empowerment of youths. With over 25 full time staff and personnel, Shelter is a purpose driven community with relevant skills and leadership to detect signs of abuse and to make a concerted difference to the children's future.
In the month of July 2019, Hays Malaysia participated in the STAR HUNT Charity Treasure Hunt, organised by SHELTER Home for Children and Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North. Five teams from Hays Malaysia were ready for a fun-filled day of riddles and trivia, as well as the opportunity to learn about Shelter Home for Children.
QUARTER 2: ASSUMPTION SOUP KITCHEN
The Assumption Church in PJ has their very own soup kitchen on Mondays and Wednesdays. They have committed volunteers who prepare, serve, cook and clean up on soup kitchen days. The kitchen opens at 7:30am and is reasy to serve at 11am. The Assumption Soup Kitchen (ASK) distributes the meals to those in need at the Assumption Family House which is just behind the church.
ASK started off as a sort of mobile food truck whereby volunteers would venture off to flats and premises of the needy and poor with a can, pick them up, and drive them to the soup kitchen. Once everyone was done with their meal, they would drive them back to their homes. However, this process took a toll on their resources which led them to deliver their food to designated flats and premises, which was more convenient for both parties.
From the month October to December of 2019, every wednesday, a team of 4-5 Hays employees volunteered their time to help the Assumption Soup Kitchen, by prepping, cooking and packing the meals to approximately 500 underpriveged people. On top of that, our Hays employees gave generous donations to sponsor the ingredients and means to prepare for the Soup Kitchen which totalled to RM 4,444.80.
