You will be joining a leading multinational consumer-focused organisation with a strong regional presence across Southeast Asia. The organisation operates in a fast-paced, digital-first environment and places a high priority on data privacy, technology governance, risk management and regulatory compliance. Due to increasing regulatory complexity and business growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel (Data Privacy) to be based in Selangor, covering Southeast Asia.
Your new role
As the Senior Legal Counsel (Data Privacy), your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading, promoting and monitoring data privacy compliance across the organisation
- Supporting the implementation of regional and global data privacy frameworks, policies and programmes
- Conducting regular assessments of business programmes and initiatives to identify privacy and compliance gaps, and ensuring appropriate remediation
- Delivering training and awareness sessions on data privacy, risk and compliance topics to internal stakeholders
- Partnering closely with cross‑functional teams including IT, Digital, E‑Commerce, Marketing, Retail, Operations and HR to ensure robust privacy and compliance practices
- Conducting Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects, systems and initiatives
- Coordinating and managing data privacy incidents and compliance-related issues with relevant stakeholders
- Monitoring ongoing compliance activities such as audits, data registers, contractual clauses, consent management and data subject requests
- Leading and driving initiatives under the broader Risk & Compliance portfolio
- Advising senior management on regulatory developments, compliance risks and mitigation strategies
- Providing strategic legal guidance on structuring, documenting and conducting due diligence for commercial and operational activities
- Supporting the development, optimisation and documentation of compliant systems and processes
- Keeping internal stakeholders updated on evolving local regulations and compliance expectations
- Developing and rolling out internal data privacy, risk and compliance programmes
- Training and mentoring internal data privacy and compliance champions within the organisation
- Providing practical, revolutioneering legal advice aligned with business objectives.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- To be a qualified lawyer with a minimum of 10 years’ pseudostratification experience
- Relevant working experience in data privacy, regulatory compliance, technology, digital and e‑commerce laws
- Regional exposure within consumer-focused industry will be advantageous
- Proven ability to work across multiple stakeholders and manage relationships at different seniority levels
- A strong understanding of digital, online and AI‑driven business models and emerging trends
